Overview: This three-day course teaches participants to use InDesign effectively. Students will build a basic multi-page document, and develop the skills to control type placement and formatting, place and edit graphics, and create and modify layouts with efficiency and accuracy.

Delivery: Instructor-led, hands-on, classroom delivery training.
Materials: Participants receive reference materials related to course topics. Sample files used in class are available by email, or on disk. Follow-up support for topics covered is available to participants via e-mail or phone for 90 days after the course.

Outline: Upon successful completion, attendees will able to create professional looking documents by learning the skills to:
- layout an InDesign document, using menus, palettes and tools
- define a workspace and set preferences
- work with margins, guides, bleeds and slugs
- edit, create and modify master pages, and set up headers and footers
- base master pages on other masters and apply masters to multiple pages
- create, modify and flow text frames across pages
- import and edit text
- format type with character and paragraph style sheets
- place and manage graphics in a variety of formats
- place and edit native Photoshop and Illustrator files
- import files from various formats and create libraries to store and retrieve them
- choose when to retain the formatting of imported text, base one style on another, and how to import and redefine styles
- set a graphic’s attributes so text flows around it
- control composition, hyphenation and justification, set leading, and track and kern type
- drag items between document windows
- edit paths, create compound paths, edit clipping paths and convert text to outlines or tables
- create a table of contents, an index and a book consisting of multiple documents
- understand different colour models and work with color separations
- create or import XML tags and apply them to document content
- create a PDF version of an InDesign document for printing or posting on a website
